Sell Your Video On Demand at Google – No More

Posted By admin On April 3, 2009 @ 1:53 pm In | 8 Comments

As of 2009, Google Video no longer accepts uploaded videos. However, videos that were already uploaded are still hosted on Google servers. Then, other navigation features were retired, such as the selection of top videos. A previous version of this article was entitled
Sell Your Video On Demand at Google. Google Video is no longer a place to sell your videos on demand.

Google still hosts videos that were uploaded before 2009. Here’s an example of one of the free videos still hosted at Google Video. [1]

Today Google Videos, originally called Google Video, is a video search engine and that’s about it. Before 2009 it was a free video sharing website which allowed selected videos to be remotely embedded on other websites just like YouTube does today. Websites can host large amounts of video remotely on YouTube and other sites without running into bandwidth or storage capacity issues.

YouTube became so popular that Google purchased it in 2006. Today there are many sites that host video such as Vimeo, Brightcove, and Viddler. But not one has the popularity of YouTube. It’s the 4th most popular website after Google, FaceBook, and Yahoo. YouTube is the second most popular search engine and that’s not just for videos; it’s for all searches!

For those who can remember the Internet without video, we’ve come a long way. Who would have guessed 20 years ago that cell phones would carry TV shows and personal videos. But today, not only do cell phones display video, there are even ad agencies [2] that specialize in cell phone video commercials.

Just as newspapers are following their readers and moving content to the Internet so quickly, video and TV are also quickly moving to the Internet. Google’s Ad Words Program [3] has set the standard for advertising on the Internet. So Google seemed a natural company to bring a successful revenue model to Internet video.
