Avio software Can't Post

Even to the most arduous supporter it is now apparent that the version 1.2 of Avio software is a complete failure. We are now up to 15 documented and generally supported problems ranging from fonts to corrupted titles cessation of playback and shuffling of problems along the storyboard. Those of us lucky enough to have a separate 1.1 smartcard can go back. It would be a nice birthday present from Draco if they could get it right. I for one am losing patience. I have already lost a storyboard of over 460 scenes and am reluctant to start any major projects. I love the concept, hate the implementation

I have not had ANY problems with my avio, in fact I bought three of them, one for each divison of my studio. I must admit that it sometimes act's funny but I make sure when I edit A project I always back things up,rule of thumb for NLE, and keep my harddrive clean and the system cooled and have not had one problem. Every new product does have bugs but atleast they try to fix them.
Give the Avio a score of 8 out of 10.
Happy editing,
Chris

Brian and Liz
I also agree the 1.2 software is still not reliable.
I get storyboard lockup periodically as well as title background
scenes corrupting footage, leaving a 1 second sample!
As my warranty will soon be out I have been informed by the agent not to worry, that future software upgrades will fix any current bugs, I also wonder if it may be a hardware problem and therefore no warranty cover!

Perhaps you should live in the UK.
V1.2 has made my Avio the editor it should be.
Since loading 1.2 I have only had one hang-up.
It is still lacking in some facilities and there could be more fonts but mostly it is miles more reliable than any PC based system I have used.
What we want now is a "value for money" firewire card. It's priced at £500 here ($700) which is far to high as PC cards can be had for £70 upwards usually bundled with editing software.

Perhaps it shouldn't matter where you live. a product should deliver what it claims otherwise it is being sold under false pretences. I am sorry but I don't see any gains in version 1.2 and there are no Brownie points awarded for trying just for delivering the goods. For the record we live in Australia and some of the list of my problems below have been mentioned by other users.
We lost entire story board link without any changes to scene bin contents. The story board, all 467 scenes, just dissapeared forever
Black scenes break up with green pixellation and will not play or allow transitions and titles even though the clip is being used successfully at some other point on the storyboard (Removing or replacing clip makes no difference)
Altering a title on a created black scene may cause the title to become corrupt resulting in the playback stopping at that point. This happens from story board as well as play to video ( even when the title insert is green). Continuing playback from story board is possible starting after problem clip.
Altering or re-inserting a non-playing title makes the title unrenderable (it stays red). Rendering goes for about 50% and stops
The black background clip appears grey or green and the font colour and style is altered on a corrupt title.
Removing created black and replacing with captured black allows same title to be inserted and rendered and play - HOWEVER
The next title to the right on the story board becomes immediately corrupt with same scenario as above.
Disconnecting power and rebooting allows the title to be rendered but playback still stops at the title clip
In our last production I had to alter 7 titles in sequence and finally the last scene "Made black" without title was corrupted and replaced with captured black.
In other words the problem was shuffled along the story board until the end. At every corrupt clip playback stopped
The titles shimmer on a colour and black clip (including captured black) but not on a video clip
Scrolling through a clip in split or trim window produces annoying green pixellation and flickering
Capture SVHS from VCR source worked with some tapes but not the first 20 secs of others. Capture fine starting tape after 20 secs.We got around this problem by capturing to digital then digital into Avio
Playing a clip from the scene bin, trim window or split window does not play the entire clip. This makes it difficult to find and edit clip faults between cuts. The last 5-6 frames are not played. Scenes played from the story board shows all the clip and faults at the ends

What have the people at MacroSystem tech support said about your problems when you contacted them? Did they offer solutions, and did you try their solutions?

Re: Avio software [In reply to] Can't Post

Richard,
We sent an e-mail on the 5/1/01 detailing the list above and have not yet received a response although our rep was going on holidays and promised a reply when he returned. The general advice on the Oz bulletin board for our kind of problems ie crashing, corrupt titles and video etc seems to be to remove the storyboard, reinstall the software and start again. I do not have fault with the backup from Abtec in Australia. They try their best and respond to all requests promptly. However our unit will be out of warranty soon and if these problems can be related to hardware down the track we may have no recourse to free repairs. If we had purchased any other device which had as many problems as the Avio it would have been well and truly returned by now. Perhaps this is a measure of how we feel about the potential of this editor. But it seems a case of one step forward three back with software. Macrosystem have only themselves to blame. I cannot recommend Avio at this time.
