Avio works for me

Regarding the Avio vs. PC debate, everything is relative. I purchased an Avio DV with Pro Pack six months ago and have accomplished more in that time with the Avio than in a couple of years of linear editing, where simple A/B rolls can be a royal pain in the keester. Technical headaches consumed most of my time with linear, so when deciding to get into nonlinear I certainly didn't want to jump right into PCs or Mac FCP to deal with more headaches and a large learning curve. True, rendering could be faster and there are occasional minor crashes with the Avio, but the system worked nearly flawlessly for me on a major project I worked on-- a memorial video for a cancer victim that involved collecting footage from 40 hours of video shot over 5 years. With the 40 gig HD I did have to use the y/c quality setting rather than digital, but since most of the footage was analog home videos anyway, the quality was quite acceptable when recorded out to MiniDV. If this machine is used for one of its intended purposes-- for a low- to moderate-volume wedding/event videographer, I find it to be more than adequate. When my work volume increases, I will probably be going to Canopus Storm, but until then, the Avio presents some intriguing possibilities.
