Betacam/Pro usage Can't Post

Is anyone using Betacam or similar with Avio? In other words, is anyone actually editing pro format video which then remains pro format when edited?

Hi,
We don't use BetaCam, but we do use DVCAM format. Which is above Professional. Then once we are ready for a master, we go back out to DVCAM and we file the master into our system rack.
The video looks and sound are super.

I've used BetaSP footage in and out of the Avio. But footage shot on DV looks much better.

???DVCam is "above pro"?? what do you mean by this? If you mean its better than Betacam then you really need to pay a visit to the optometrist. DVCam is no better than standard DV which if you've watched side by side next to Betacam you'd know it does't look as good.
It runs faster which reduces the risk of tape dropout gives you locked audio and the contrast is a little darker than DV but aside from this isn't any "better" than DV and is certainly not in the same league as Betacam. However to edit on Betacam on the Kron or audio would be a bit of a waste unless you already had Betacam equipment as you reduce the quality of the video as soon as you capture it. Better to go into your system uncompressed but I really can't see that happening on the Kron anytime soon.

WATTOO -- from extensive comparative testing and technical specifications, the only condition where we've seen BetaSP chosen over DV was when the reviewer was still paying off a boatload of debt that he had incurred by investing in too much BetaSP equipment.
Check out the link for info about the formats. Also http://www.users.bigpond.com/kaywand/wand/tech_docs/dv_v_beta.htm has some detailed discussions, although no difinitive chart. Yes, BetaSP is softer, but DV can acheive the same look via a soft filter, or simply smearing a thin layer of petroleum jelly over a UV filter.
In resolution, there's no comparison:
DV = 6.3 MHz (500 horizontal lines)
BetaSP = either 4.0 or 4.5 MHz (320 or 360 Hlines)
In video noise, there's no comparison:
DV = 55 or 60 dB S/N ratio
BetaSP = 52 or 53 dB S/N ratio
The one thing I'll give you is that BetaSP tape tends toward fewer dropout between the 3rd and the 10th recording pass.
But I never re-record any of the tapes anyway, so it doesn't affect my use of it.
Thanks for bringing up the topic.

I used betacam sp into the avio all the time via the YC cable.
It looks great.
