: If you mean its better than Betacam then you : really need to pay a visit to the optometrist. WATTOO -- from extensive comparative testing and technical specifications, the only condition where we've seen BetaSP chosen over DV was when the reviewer was still paying off a boatload of debt that he had incurred by investing in too much BetaSP equipment. Check out the link for info about the formats. Also http://www.users.bigpond.com/kaywand/wand/tech_docs/dv_v_beta.htm has some detailed discussions, although no difinitive chart. Yes, BetaSP is softer, but DV can acheive the same look via a soft filter, or simply smearing a thin layer of petroleum jelly over a UV filter. In resolution, there's no comparison: DV = 6.3 MHz (500 horizontal lines) BetaSP = either 4.0 or 4.5 MHz (320 or 360 Hlines) In video noise, there's no comparison: DV = 55 or 60 dB S/N ratio BetaSP = 52 or 53 dB S/N ratio The one thing I'll give you is that BetaSP tape tends toward fewer dropout between the 3rd and the 10th recording pass. But I never re-record any of the tapes anyway, so it doesn't affect my use of it. Thanks for bringing up the topic.
