Casablanca-Broadcast Quality? Can't Post

I am seriously considering purchasing the 060 Casablanca model. I will be using the DV format (VX1000 or XL1). My goal is to produce broadcast quality video that meets the NTSC standards. I would appreciate feedback from anybody who uses the Casablanca for professional, broadcast quality video. Does it do the job?

Bob, Take a look at http://www.draco.com/pages/reviews_tvtech.html, which is a good review of the Cassie from a professional broadcast producer's vantage. There are a number of programs currently being edited on the Casablanca and aired on network and cable tv.

If using Y/C connector straight in PVW series Betacam SP or equivalent (which has the S-Video Y/C connector) the output pictures on resolution level 12 (the highest) is certainly broadcast standard - even in PAL.
"PC Link" is indispensible as an addition; it's a cheap software pak that allows connection to PC via COM ports, and is necessary for importing graphics or video footage generated by Adobe After Effects or Premiere.
Other add-on software bundles available for Casa are klunky and stupid, and are not moving with DraCo's Casablanca O/S upgrades fast enough. PC Link is a much better way to get real graphics & chroma keys happening, though the upload/download rate is extemely slow for moving pics.
Be careful not to buy the older O/S (Version 2.0) as it has unacceptable audio mixing bugs. Also be wary of the DV Fire Wire connector - it's way too expensive and like all SONY -related products is not 100% compatible. Again, it's the audio that suffers - it definitely adds "pops and squeals" on the soundtrack at most cuts and effects when dubbing out to MiniDV - even to a SONY camera.
You can bypass the firewire audio and use the analogue, but it's not flawless.
