Cassie & the XL1 Can't Post

I haven't read much on the cassie and the Canon XL1. Anyone out there had much experience with that combo? Also, I plan to by a cassie - should I blow the money on firewire, or will the s-vid work well enough? Honestly? can you tell that much of a difference between Firewire and the S-vid?

The Cassie will work fine with the XL-1. S-vid input to the Cassie will also work great. You can visually detect any difference. The real difference will come when you have to record the edited output of the Cassie back to analog tape, unless you have one of the DV recorders or vidcams that has analog input. The XL-1 only accepts DV input.

Re: Cassie & the XL1 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,
The XL1 works nearly flawlessly with the CB. The only glitch I have is (the Cassie runs the camera when connected to it via firewire) that occasionally the fastforward fails to stop the camera when the Cassie instructs it to. I then have to hit the stop buttoon severals to stop it. Other than that NO problems. Draco uses an XL1 for many of their Casablanca demonstrations and whatever drivers needed for smooth XL1-Cassie use are in place.
Hope this helps,
Morgan

Re: Cassie & the XL1 [In reply to] Can't Post

my question which is still unanswered is:
Is the cassie capable of rendering without loss in a 16:9 aspect? VHS picture Monitor picture... fine and great but will I loose resolution when the 608040 processor renders my footage in 16:9 and is blown up for a film scan?????

Josh -
Like I told you in the e-mail - if you use firewire it works just like any other editing system. I don't believe the processor speed has anything to do with - The key is the compression ratio. I believe the Casablanca can hold its own as is, but at NAB they (DraCo) were talking a disk that will increase this ratio and improve quality even more. The processor speed doesn't have anything to do with it. Maybe there is someone here who knows it better than I do, but why didn't you ask DraCo this question when you had them on the phone?
good luck
Mat
