DVD-R/DVD-RW or DVD+R/DVD+RW Can't Post

Hello friends:
I will get my new Prestige by the end of the month, and was wondering what is your opinion about the DVD system used in Macro-System (DVD-R and DVD-RW).
If in the near future Philips, Sony and others may be able to convince the market with its new format +R and +RW, perhaps our Casablanca DVD burner can be obsolete very soon.
What is your opinion about the success of one or the other sytems?. Do you think, we can connect a DVD burner (dvd+rw SYstem) to the DV out, and transport the hard disk info to this other system and create also dvd+rw ??
And the third question; dvd-rw are told to be readable in most of the DVD players in the market. Do you know if can be seen in Playstation2?. Is really this theoretical compatibility true with commercial and not expensive dvd players?.
I was happy to have bought Casablanca Prestige, but after reading some of the comments of this forum, i donīt know if my decision has been good or not. Anyway this is a greate site for this matter. Thanks in advance friends, and Sorry for my poor english and my poor video knowledgment.
Cheers

Re: DVD-R/DVD-RW or DVD+R/DVD+RW Can't Post

:
Go for the Philips 890 DVD,firewire input(around Ģ485.00)
Or the Philips 880 with S/VHS input (Ģ400.00)
I`ve now got two of them. Need I say more.
There realy fanatastic.
The +R System seems to work on just abuot anything.
I feel that at some point they will all change to +RW/R.
Just connect your Avio or VCR to the machine press record and away you go!
Go for it,
All the Best,
James.

First, if you're goal is to produce DVDs and want to keep up with technology, you'd spend a third as much and have much more versatility with a PC system. But it seems like you've already ordered the CP.

Sony has seen the light and now offers a writer that does both DVD-R and DVD+R. If you're concerned about the two formats, use that one. IMO, the DVD-R will win out (and currently is the only real choice) for the video production market. For the home market it doesn't really matter. DVD-Rs are most compatible now, but all will eventually be equally compatible.

Don't count on it with a Casablanca product. A PC system will allow you to store literally dozens of DVD images to burn out anytime you want to, or easily read in a previously burned image to copy back out. With Casablanca, it's not quite so easy. Then again, who ever said they were easy?
: And the third question; dvd-rw are told to be readable in most of the DVD players in the market. Do you know if can be seen in Playstation2?. Is really this theoretical compatibility true with commercial and not expensive dvd players?.
I wouldn't count on a lot of compatibility between standard players and the DVD-RW or DVD-RAM ... these rewritable formats are just not designed to interchange with standard video DVDs. On the other hand, DVD+RW is more interchangeable, but also much more limited in capabilities.

Poor English??? As good as any! If you get the Prestige, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Be careful, though, because you can easily spend $2000 or more on software to get it doing more of what you want along the line of editing. Enjoy!

Thanks James and Bob (in) [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for your comments, James and Bob.
It seems a good idea, thinking of this DVD burner created by Sony, if it really can read and burn -rw and +rw,s. Specially if we cannot asure that this Philips 890 is able to understand the "language" used in Macro-system that I guess by your explanations that it is no easy to export.
But I am afraid its cost may be expensive for the moment. Any idea?.
You say, Bob, that +rw capabilities are less than -rw.s. What do you mean exactly? Storage capabilities or quality?
and Bob as much as Iam reading your opinions, as much I believe my buying decision perhaps has not been apropiate.
But I have a couple of friends, Pc video editors, and their experiences have not been as good as they would have wished.
One of them, had a lot of problems when he wanted to increase the capabilities of his system. Lots of wasted time before fixing the hardware conflicts. And the other colleague, frequently talks about problems with interruptions (jumps) in his videoproducts. In the positive side, both say they have never lost information, once their hard disks contein something stored. This is good.
The factor of the price is undicussibly at pc.s users favour. In Casablanca we are perhaps paying the price that one only company is responsible for all the hardware we need for editing. But is supposed not to have the common conflicts heards in Pc.s systems. But may be this is not true enough, Bob, and you are right when you say things aren.t speacially easy in Macro-System.
But my order is done and my CP should arrive soon. 2000$ more to improve this Prestige?. I thought that the pack of effects included in this product were quite good. WOW 2000$ more is a lot of money. What else could I get for this amount? 80 HD disk is enough for me. And for my explanations you will have guessed I am not nor an expert neither an exigent video editor. In fact I am not sure to be a video editor for the moment.
My experience in this matter consists only in editing home films in my old Panasonic-VHS, using its edit and audio-dubbing functions, and complete the activity, with an other not less old HAMMA for the titles and sound. Any possible effect will be new for me, but perhaps with time I will need more. May be.
Thanks again for your help, and I hope reading you again in this interesting site.
All the best,
Jordi.
