Editing with digital cameras Can't Post

I am presently using the JVC-XB and X-3 as my primary cameras.
As a result, all my editing is done with SVHS equipment. However, I am seriously considering buying digital cameras. If I do this is there any way that I can still use my SVHS editing equipment with the digital cameras and maintain a good quality video to give to my problems. If this is not possible, what would be the best way to do editing with digital cameras at a reasonable price? Thanks.

Annnnd the answer is....IT DEPENDS!
DV is inherently a better quality tape format than S-VHS, so you should see some improvement, BUT:
Unless you are considering digital cameras with optical quality similar to the X3/X2B, you may see some degradation. That is to say, it all starts with the lens, so choose your cameras with that in mind. Also, the "consumer" DV cameras (VX1000, XL-1, etc) tend to have poorer performance in low light/gain up situations than the JVC X-series.
Assuming similar cameras, the one benefit you won't be seeing with your S-VHS editing gear is the lack of generation loss when you maintain the DV format throughout the production process.
Finally, just how are you planning to use your S-VHS editing equipment with the new format? Dub from the digital cameras to S-VHS work tapes, and edit from there? That will probably negate any advantage you gain from the DV format. Or will you get frame accurate DV decks and master to S-VHS? That should show some improvement.
