How much storage space do I need-really? Can't Post

We are strongly considering the purchase of a "Cassie" for our TV program. We have a fairly extensive linear setup now- a total of 5 edit stations- 3 SVHS, 1 3/4", and 1 VHS. We are used to doing a wide variety of projects. Initially, I see the Casablanca being used for all of our remotely produced programs where we would dump footage from our cameras (eventually a digital camera) for editing into program segments. Most segments range in length from 4-10 minutes- with the entire program running about 28:30. We also would be interested in recording some of our studio stuff directly to the Cassie, and again we are talking about 28-30 minutes. Our playback to the closed circuit system and cable access channel is exclusively SVHS and 3/4". Stuff brought in from external shoots would be exclusively SVHS- with digital on the horizon. Probably can't swing the firewire option right away if we hope to get a cassie and a camera. Thanks for any ideas.

Do yourself a favor and check out the new Screenplay from Applied Magic before making up your mind. But don't take my word for it. Compare for yourself. Most people posting on this board are so close-minded because they already own a Casablanca. You I've been doing some research and came up with myown conclusion. Do your research and I think you will come up with the correct solution.

Go to the Draco site now and click on this week to see 2 new Draco products that are real time editors..The Avio at a fraction of the mentioned other product and the Chron clearly out classing the competition.and no "cluttered" screens, only full screen video. The track record of the Draco company is hard to find anywhere. The Casablanca is used to create work being broadcast worldwide. Storage for programs of this length could use an 18 gig which is more than twice your program run time but would allow music, effects and transition space. If 10-25 min segments will be rule, a 9 gig 060 unit will be perfect.Actually if your 28-30 min. programs aren't effects and transition laden, the 9 gig will be fine at the highest (beta)quality setting. On longer projects I edit 25 min segments then burn to digital tape and continue. It will do it for you and if rendering is prohibited due to time constraints, look at the Chron. The last year of using the Cassie has been a joy with zero problems and the machine has paid for itself dozens of times over. Aloha, Mike
