M$U$ BB Up and Down Can't Post

Seems that the M$U$ BB is down again...or depending upon what you post there it is up. Last week there were a number of posts complaining about the high costs of all the add-on software and these costs keep going up. A number of very unhappy people...and the posts continued to grow in number. Seems some calls went out from M$U$ top management, on Firday, to some of the posters to find out what is wrong.
Although this is pure speculation...they probably didn't like what they heard. So in order to quell the rising tide...they may have shut down their BB....again. Hey its THEIR game and you HAVE to play by THEIR rules...

Bob,
We both know that this happens all the time. When I announced that I was no longer a dealer...they locked the response box so no one would ask why.

Calm down, Ed ... isn't it obvious (by my name and email address) that it was a tongue-in-cheek reply??!!

Ok Ed,
Now's your chance. Why did you decide to not be a dealer? Sorry if I missed this someplace else.

Re: M$U$ BB Up and Down [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Richard,
It was decided for me...by M$U$. Seems I questioned the reasoning behind dealer territories for KRON...too many times. Originally I accepted the fact that the Cassie had territories...back in 1997...there was no internet as we know it today. My website was getting hits for KRON sales from outside my dealer territory and I was told, by M$U$, that I couldn't provide sales outside...the territory. Richard, to me a sale is a sale. I never once violated this territorial issue.
I did sent a post to dendler@macrosystems.de and asked for MS clairification on this issue. Before I received a response from Germany...my dealership was terminated...by M$U$. I always have and always will offer personal observations on any of the MS products. These observations were treated by M$U$ akin to the fable "The Kings Clothing".
For all of you other dealers out there M$U$ does sell direct, in yours and my territory, i know of at least 3 different times in my territory...which I am aware of....their response... we can sell to whom ever we wish...in or out of your teritory. So, now you know the story.
Ed

It's not only M$U$ that violates their own territorial restrictions. They have "favorite" dealers that have no problem selling in anyone else's territory.
Case in point: when a dealer friend of mine refused to sell me an item because I was outside his territory, I posted a message to Carroll Lam's mailing list asking who had this particular product available in my area. The message never made it to the list, but instead I was offered the product by Carroll himself (he definitely does NOT have North Carolina in his territory), and purchased it from him that same day. MSUS (DSUSA at the time) knew about it and ignored the "violation". I'm not the only one with a similar experience.
Interestingly, exactly zero of the five Avio/Kron systems I own were purchased from dealers in whose territory I reside.
So really, Ed, M$U$ must not care about the territory thing. You must have been being too honest about something else for them to give you the left foot of fellowship.

Hi Ed,
Yes, this Internet thing really does stretch the borders somewhat. Will surely have more of this hassle. I have had to turn down a UK sale already. ;-)

Thanks for sharing your story. And yes, they even install PAL software for 'their' customers this side of the Pacific Rim too.
So what are you doing these days? Has Banned Bob got it about right? :-)

Here is the proof that MSUS DOES delete what is inconvenient, everything was taken from the MSUS BB:

Earlier I posted a comment regarding the cumulative cost of recent Avio software. It was on the list this morning when I left to do a wedding. Tonight I note it's no longer listed.

My e-mail says that PC Link is now available.
Let's see here:
PC Link $299
OS 2.0 $250
Pro Pack $500
Total $1050
I've already spent for 4 font packs, presentation package, hard drive expansion.
I still don't have Power Key, Spice rack, etc.
I'd say we're talking real money here. Seem's to me that I'd be better off taking that money and investing in a real editing system.

I think I agree at this point. Some of these features could have been integrated into SE 2.0 and the PC link thrown in the box. I'll keep my Avio for mobility and fun, but I don't want to keep handing profits over this frequently. I would be better off to buy a new PC based NLE that already does all of this right out of the box. To get a decent machine I need:
Font Packs-150.00
PIP-199.00
Spice Rack-199.00
PC Link- 299.00
SE 2.0-250.00
Title Effects-199.00
Motion Perfect-199.00
Avio Pro-500.00
Avio DV 1795.00
------------------------
$3790.00
G4 isn't sounding out of reach. Most guys and gals making videos for a living are technical enough to make it through the short learning curve of a PC unit.
Why not try to sell new units instead of picking the pockets of the current customer. The more units on the market the cheaper the software should be. There must have been a list of upgrades MSUS was working on, and in some meeting room along the way it was decided to separate all of these upgrades into expensive individual options instead of making one affordable upgrade that will benefit all users at some point. My pockets are zipped until I research what the PC based market has to offer in the same price range.

I'm glad someone else noticed that trend. I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon and say it appears greed is beginning to take root here (or already has). Sorry if I seem to be a little harsh here, but when you look at the figures, we are talking about a lot of money for add-ons that aren't as good as PC add-ons. Some add-ons are needed in most cases but the price seems just a tad too much. You were right about grouping several features together would lower the cost and make it more affordable. I realize they are in business to make money, and there is nothing wrong with that, but they seem to be going overboard with it. "My pockets are empty".

Because of all these Necessary Options, I purchases a M-RT-3D Real Time System for $3,795 and it included;
Over 500 RT Effects
150 TrueType Fonts
Pioneer A04 DVD Burner
Removable Video Storage
I can add up to four 10 hour video drives
Since it's a pc I can easily use bmp and tga
There's too many features to list here but it looks like my RT-3D system far exceeds any MSUS product.
I think the best feature is being Real Time so I can make changes instantly to anything, text, effects or motion to mention just a few.

I'm usually not one to gripe about a company making a profit - but, I have to agree with some of the previously mentioned thoughts.
With the pick-up of SmartEdit, this WILL be my last upgrade/software purchase. My unit is near the $4,000 range in terms of money spent on software. Enough is enough, plus with it having a slower processor, what's the point in sticking more money into old technology. Don't take this all in a negative vaine - I do love what I'm able to do and I do plan on using the Avio heavily for the next couple of years. It has served me very very well.
I think the real problem is with the pricing MSUS puts on the software. An automtic price of $149-$199 seems to be the trend. For a minor software purchase that accomplishes a single task (ie. PIP studio, motion perfect, etc.) I think that is asking a lot. Oh, they also have no costs associated with having to ship software to distributors, put the software on disc(s), packaging, printing manuals, etc. Christ, I have to use my own paper and ink to get instructions? C'mon, these savings should be passed on to us, their loyal customers.
In closing, love the Avio - mine is done from ever seeing any other software add-ons -and any extra coin is going into savings for my next editing system; which when the time comes, I'll still be hanging on to old faithful.

Hey Daniel,
All of the above Options were included in the M-RT-3D system ($3,795), except for the Twister.
In place of the Twister I purchased "Shuttle-Pro" for $150. That's $150 that remains in MY pocket, not MSUS.
