Newbie question Can't Post

Hi,
I am new to this, so my questions might seem simple.
Is it better to use a Casablanca system or something like an Mac G4?
What is real time rendering? Is that really important?
Thanks.

: Is it better to use a Casablanca system or something like a Mac G4?
It depends on what you are using it for, if you are using it for Weddings, corporate, or photomontage then a Casablanca can be use. If you want high graphics then a g-4 Mac is good. Also, look at the time that you can afford to learn each system. With an Avio/Kron you can learn the basics within hours and learn it all within a week or two. With a G-4 Mac, it will take a few days to learn the basic setup and the cuts. It will take months to learn it inside and out. But with the longer learning curve the more you have to work with.

Real-Time rendering means the effect that you put on the storyboard will render in real time or near instant time. Example a 4 second crossfade would take 4 or fewer seconds to render. This is an important feature that is needed if you do not have a lot of time to do a project. If you can wait anywhere from 1minute to 2 hours on the Avio/Kron then the Avio/Kron might be the way to go.
I have worked with Classic/Avio/ for the last 3-4 years and they are a simple machine that can get simple things done. I have the Matrox RT2500 that I have been using for the last few months and all the effects up to three layers are in real time. Plus, you can do a lot more graphics with its "sister" programs and put them in your video. I am starting to learn Avid DV EXpress
So, it depends on if you have the time to learn a g-4 or if you want to get in the mix right away.
