PC editing vs. Casablanca..... Can't Post

I am considering investing in some good editing equipment but must watch the budget. What is better and what is more worth it? What digital editing would you advise. Thanx.

Unless you have lots of time, money and patience, I would not advise planning on editing video on a pc. The Casablanca or Avio are much more cost effective and less frustrating. I have Video ToasterNT (wonderful), Studio DV(frustrating), and Media Studio Pro 6.0 and Premiere 5.1c and have owned several other pc based hardware and software systems. If you buy an expensive turnkey pc system you should be okay, but don't even think of using the pc for anything else or you'll mess it up.
By contrast a Cassie or Avio won't tie up a computer, come ready to work, rarely if ever give significant problems, and allow you to edit rather than make a full time hobby of trying to keep you system working.

I've never been a big fan of video editing on a PC. I say this because I've had 2 friends go through PC hell trying to get their NLE working on a PC and these guys know PC hardware & software!
OK, people are able to make it work and there are dealers who know how to build PC systems that work correctly, but I feel it's better to start from the ground up building a system for editing only, like Draco (now MacroSystem) and Applied Magic did.
Given that the AVIO sells for $1,295 (non-DV version) and $1,795 (DV-version), this is a real deal for a NLE system.
If you want something more, like the ability to add externial hard drives ..., look at the Sequel for $1,995. I've also seen the ScreenPlay on sale as low as $2,495.

By the way, "better" is subject to the needs and views of the buyer. Each person will have their own views as to what is "best", but that may not reflect your needs or views. I strongly suggest you look at each system and consider the choices you'll need to make. Comments by users can be found at:

I hope this helps,
