why so long to add project ? Can't Post

can anyone tell me firstly why we need to ADD PROJECT for dvd why cant the project be burned direct to dvd just as we can output to tape direct. i have just added a project of 1hour 50 mins it took 3hours 35 mins then of course to burn to dvd it took as long as the project!what a waste of time considering that once i have a master dvd i can burn 7 dvds on my duplicater in just 15 mins to save time i now have a second kron to try and speed things along. i still have a classic cassie but that cant help with dvds.as i am self employed and using the kron every day i hope someone can answer my question on this time consuming question i add that i am on version 3 smart edit and kron 1.10+
software and arabesk 1.2e here,s yawning at ya!

It takes longer to master a DVD than it does to copy one.
That's just the way it is. If you want faster DVD mastering you need to get a standalone DVD burner such as the Panasonic or Phillips. Of course you'll lose the real nice project screen and the much more professional looking end product, but who needs those things. Unless you happen to be competing for business against others who have them.
Quality takes time, get use to it and try to render these things when you have other things to do.

thanks gerald, but i have used ,as you suggest a philips dvdr 1000
stand alone burner since day one, along with krons /arabesk. unfortunatly the philips is a {+} machine which tends to give me more compatabilty problems with my customers, plus the fact i dont like the way you have to chapter the dvd {namely whist the video is running } and all done via the remote, which i find a bit
difficult, but then, i have not read the manual ! by the way gerald where are you ?.

I believe the machine has to covert the directDV format into Mpeg2 for writing on DVD. This takes time and is very processor speed sensitive.
