Best Camcorder For Underwater Video? Can't Post

Since the HC3 was put on the market, there must be new models that are better for underwater use. One of the Sony sites mentioned that the HC3 was no longer being manufactured so there must be later models either on the market now or about to be introduced.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

Also, it seems as if the currect crop of high-definition camcorders must greatly compress the digital information as it comes into the camcorder so as to get reasonable time on the DV tape. So much information is discarded by this MPEG-2 compression insdie the camcorder, the end result of the compression must be reduced resolution, color and color saturation. Next, the already MPEG-2 compressed digital information must be further comrpessed and manipulated in the process leading up to burning a high definition DVD. Someone mentioned that a really good DVCAM shot of the same subject as shot by a high definition camcorder is so good it is difficult to distinguish one from the other in a side-by-side comparison. Has anyone run such a test? If so, what has been your conclusion?

Only side-by-side comparisons appear to be valid.

I am becoming interested in improving my underwater video gear, but I'm not convinced at this time that the current crop of consumer high definition camcorders are capable of providing a truly improved image once processed through editing and burning to a DVD and then viewed on the current high definiton TV screens.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
