SONY HDR HC3 Can't Post

Anybody have any experience with this camera or its' immediate predecessors for underwater videography? I'm currently using TRV900 and would like to move up to HD, but don't want to schlepp a big camera around. Thanks

I have bought this camera and will be getting a housing soon. I will report once I get in the water!

So I just want to immediately come clean and say that I run Light & Motion. But that said, the HC3 is a cool little camera. I'm sure you know by now that HDV is much higher resolution than SDV so if your thinking about upgrading with Sony camera you practically have 4 choices. The discontinued HC1, the A1U which is the "commercial" HC1 (and nice b/c it has 1 touch white balance without the touchscreen), the HC3 (white blalance through touch screen), and FX1. The HC1/A1U will feel like your V900. They are almost the same size. The HC3 is notably smaller and consequently will go into a smaller housing.

You can see a camera comparison here http://www.camcorder-compare.com/...--_sony-hdr-hc1.html
The most notable difference is the chip size which will make some difference, but probably not enough to make up for the extra size the camera.

We don't have any full HDV posted but we do have 1/2 and 1/3 resolution posted here. http://www.uwimaging.com/gallery/hdv.htm Chuck Nicklin is shooting the HC1 or A1U. see http://www.uwimaging.com/...Nicklin/indo_05.html I can't remember which. The rest is FX1, but it's really hard to tell the difference once you compressed the footage.

I hope that's helpful and not too "commercial!"

Good diving,
