Yap, in all its glory. Can't Post

Cool
Hi Guys,
Been busy for the last few months having been commissioned by the Yap government to produce a very ambitious promotional DVD. I will be developing a web site soon, too much time underwater at the moment!!! Included in the project is a re-edited and newly soundtracked version of my Antibes finals film all about the life cycle and behavior of Mandarinfish. Filmed over 7 months on the shallow reefs of the inner lagoons of Yap. I certainly know how to fin pivot now.
I know I had contact with some of you for a while but then went quiet. Thats how I work, nothing personal. When I get stuck into a project I immerse myself totally, best way to describe working underwater I guess.

Anyway IŽll let you know when it gets published, the website, as IŽll be putting up some streaming video of different stuff from Micronesia.

Bets Fishes.
Mark.

I'll be in Yap and Palau in December for two weeks. Any tips on topside stuff as my wife does not dive would be appreciated. I'd really like to see the local culture, so if you can recommend any places of interest that would be great.

Hi There,
For you, youŽre gonna have a great time! For your wife, Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Palau offers better topside attractions including the usual shopping, restaurants and sights. They also have some really nice walks and trips, Kayaking, Village tours etc. The diving in palau..........well what can you say...........WOW!!!!!

Yap on the other hand has pretty limited resources, but I love it. Thats why I live there. The diving in Yap is great so long as you get your fill of the Mantas and then go off to look at the other masses of possibilities. Shark feeds are incredible, the Macro life is plentiful and the Mandarinfish are really a treat.

Topside there are Kayaking, Village and Island tours. There are also possibilities to hire a car and explore on your own. The cultural aspect of Yap remains really strong and is in evidence everywhere. DonŽt expect to find many shopping possibilities on Yap. There is an art gallery for locally painted watercolours, incredibly tallented artists, and a few souvenir shops only in the hotels. Bar and Restaurants, stick to the established eateries. Some of the local restaurants donŽt use bottled water to make ice or for drinking purposes so unless you want to be laid up with "Montezummas Revenge" stick to the more established restaurants and cafes etc.

All in all youŽll have a great time. This is an incredibly divers and culturally intact area of the world. On Yap, no crime, no drugs, no hostilities - its paradise. On Palau, some of the best diving in the world, friendly people, the rock islands are picturesque and of course all the stores and restaurants youŽd want to jam into a vacation.

YouŽll have a blast.
Regards,
Mark.
