Adding Mouth Movement Can't Post

Anyone know of a tutorial on how to animate a photo to have the subject appear to be saying something? Youu've seen this in commercials. I once tried having a 6 yr old repeat the needed words while I filmed her mouth and in AE pasted it onto an infant. Wasn't as clean as I would like. I now need an adult subject repeat a couple words used in the song I'm using.

Start with a still image that is properly sized to fit your video screen.

In Photoshop:
1. Place the image in a layer over a transparent background.
2. Select an area around the mouth, feathering the edges slightly.
3. Cut out the selected area. Save the image as a 32 bit .tga file or other format that supports an alpha channel.

In your editing software:
1. Import the saved image and place it in a video track. Stretch to fill the needed clip length.
2. Place a video clip of a person talking in a track above the still image. Use pan/crop tools if needed to get the mouth of the talking person positioned under the transparent hole in the still image.

That's it!

Thanks, Bear. That's sort of what I did once before except I tried to put the moving lips over top the subject . I can see where your way would blend it better. Well, off to try that one!

Probably too late a post here - but I've done this before ... to cut any sharp edges where the video underlays, I put a slight gaussian blue on the mouth image to blend the two skin tones together. I was quite surprised at the output .. looked pretty good.
