Anyone using a wacom tablet? Can't Post

Went to a photog convention in Austin and was interested in the Intuos3 6x8 or 6x11. Need help to decide. Any experienced users out there?
Thanks

I used a 6X8 for about three years at my old job doing graphics.
It was great. I currently have a 4x5 for home office use.
You can barely tell the difference between the two and I can't imagine needing anything as huge as a 6x11.

Especially not at the extra cost.
But they do look cooler though, don't they?

Anyway, I say save the money and get the 6X8.

Cheers!

Thanks Andrew
I'm using two monitors, (mostly for video), but in PS I put photos in one, tools and palettes in the other and thought the extra space would be nice. Do you think it would be too big, the extra size just wasted? Anyone using the 6x11 yet?
Thanks

I use two monitors as well.
The effective screen size is 2560x1024 so it seems that a small 4X5 Wacom like the one I use has to work awfully hard to cover that area.

But in reality, when doing any painting (and painting is the only time I use the pressure sensitive Wacom - anything else can be done more effectively with a mouse) I CTRL+SPACE or ALT+SPACE (that's zoom in and zoom out) close enough to the picutre that the 4X5 isn't too small afterall.

Of course, if you have the money to burn get the big tablet. Otherwise, I think you could save a bunch of money with the 6X8.

Cheers!

Use the 6x8 if you have a 4:3 monitor. Use the 6x11 if you use a widescreen monitor.

I use mine with my Paint Program. Outstanding for drawing and moving objects/videos/stills etc.

I heart my Wacom tablet. Can't live without it. Cannot possibly edit anything without it. Makes me wonder how I survived before I bought one. I'd go for the 6x8 though, the smaller one is alright, but you know what they say, bigger is always better. Wink

I'm sitting here playing with my little one(4x5) right now... small but for under $100 I like it Wink.
Makes photoshop more interesting...
I am working on some dancers that I shot today (I guess technically it was yesterday (monday)). It feels more natural working with a pen instead of the mouse, when painting/drawing..... in photoshop.

Hi Mike,

I don't know a graphic artist who doesn't use a tablet. They are great for graphic work.

In my bizness, we don't use them for video, but at graphics workstations with photoshop. The end images are used in video. Video editing in my shop is done on dual widescreen monitors and there's no convient mapping for both monitors in the current wacom Intuos line.

I'd recommend using the 6x8 with a standard 4:3 monitor and the 6x11 with two standard monitors or one widescreen. Once you get into a comfort zone with the technology, there's no going back!
