CS3 vs CS4(or earlier versions for that matter) Can't Post

I have never had the need for Photoshop, even though it would probably made my life easier, but my question is...are there big differences between these versions if the only thing I am looking to do is create menus, disk & case labels, and maybe a little photo clean up for montages? I am shopping for a photoshop version but I am not sure going all the way up to CS4 will be worth the money since it is my first shot at a photoshop product. Thoughts????

Any version that you choose doesn't matter for the work that you said that you do...

Menus
Labels
Clean up images...

Even CS2 is ok!
