Cropping with Photoshop Elements Can't Post

I normally use PS 7 but was doing some quick corrections with Elements and must have hit some key combinations that causes the Crop Tool to only crop in "constrained" mode. The Help files says the hold down the Shift key to constrain the crop but mine does it all the time.

I dug out my PS 7 manual and cannot find an answer there either. Maybe that's the only way Element crops but I sure would like to use a free form crop if anyone know how I can get rid of my Contrain mode? I suppose I could just use mt PS 7!

while you have the selection tool "selected", there is a drop down box that is labeled Style: . Make sure you have NORMAL selected rather than Contstrained Aspect Ratio or Fixed Size.

Thanks for the reply Mike but I need a bit more help. Can you tell me what you mean by selection tool. Do you mean the Cropping Selection Tool? Next, where do I find the drop down box that is labeled Style. This could be one of those head slappers when find the answer but right now I am a bit slow on this one.

By selection tool, I mean "Rectangular Marquee Tool". It is located at the top left of your tool pallette. Then the drop down box is located in the menus right above your picture.

Maybe first, go to "Window> then reset all Palette Locations" in the menu bar to reset. Then it should appear as I described it.

Thanks for your reply Mike. Your answer wasn't exactly what I needed but It gave me a good enough hint that I figured out how to fix my problem. You must use the Marquee tool for cropping while I was using the Crop Tool. When the Crop Tool is selected, height/width/resolution can be selected in the tool bar. When you do that, the crop is constrained. All I had to do was hit the "clear" button to go back to free form cropping. I knew it would be a simple answer that this PS rookie would get figured out. Thanks again.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I know how frustrating it can be to know the solution is only a few clicks away, but not know how to find it! I've been there a few times myself.
