Photoshop CS to Epson R300 Color Problem Can't Post

I've just created my first case cover in Photoshop CS. When I print it on my Epson R300 on gloss paper, my colors shift substantially and seem to look washed out. (I'm on a G4 Mac.)

I can see this when I use Preview also, and when I tried to create a pdf to take to a G3 Mac to print on an Epson Stylus 600 printer, the same color shift has occurred. I previously created cas covers on this G3 using PageMaker, and never had any color issues...but I couldn't get the effects that you can with Photoshop.

I must be doing something wrong in Photoshop. Can anyone help...maybe walk me thru some settings? Thanks in advance.

Re: [AndrewMSV] Photoshop CS to Epson R300 Color Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks, Andrew. I'm at the day job now and will have to do that this evening. I've been all over the place, with different Workspaces, Color Sync on/off, manual color adjustments, etc. Nothing seems to make much difference. In desperation, I went back to PageMaker on my G3 and came up with a close relative (altho not as sophisticated) that gives me brilliant colors and detail I want, and let's me get this video out the door.

I also asked the graphics people here (a couple of whom I use for 2nd cameras at times), and they think it is a monitor calibration problem that can possibly be corrected by either adjusting levels or maybe outputing to a flattened jpg file (altho creating a pdf file produces the color and intensity changes, and I think that flattens the file also.

I definitely want to correct whatever is happening, butI also need to finish building a new display and redoing my demo DVD for a show next Sunday!

I will get back to you.

Allan,
It's hard to tell without seeing the settings but when you click Print with Preview... there should be an advanced button (OR one that says more options; bottom-right corner). You should validate you Color Management. Sometimes CS would assign the application itself or the printer to manage it for you... and this would set it off.

Could be one of a few things.

- Check to make sure what paper setting your using in the print dialog box before printing. If you chose a mis-match it'll use a different color profile and make the print wacky (ie using a Plain Paper setting with Glossy Photo Paper)

- This next one happened to me: I kept getting strange colors in my prints and thinking it was a color profile issue I fiddled around for what seemed like hours before I started troubleshooting elsewhere and found the real problem- low ink in one of my colors (even though the software didn't pick up on it). You can imagine the horror when skin tones were coming out GREEN!

Good luck!
