Photoshop DVD cover template Can't Post

Hi! I did a search and know that some folks are using Photoshop to make DVD covers. However, I did not see where any template is posted and available. I am hoping some kind reader will either e-mail me a template or post it here for all. I am using Photoshop Elements 2.0, but I'd love to see any version of a Photoshop template. I am hoping it contains words on the spine. TIA, Jim Murphy

Make your own template. Scan the insert of one of your hollywood DVDs at the resolution you want your insert to be. Now you'll have a perfect example by which to drag guides (to designate the spine area) etc. Works like a charm.

Re: [Glen Elliott] Photoshop DVD cover template [In reply to] Can't Post

Glen, thanks for posting. Would appreciate it if you could walk me through some of the steps. I am pretty new to PhotoShop. I have scanned in a commercial cover, so I have the image there, but what I want to do is set up a template that I can use for DVD covers. Is there a way to use layers so that I can discard the commercial cover, but retain some kind of guidepoints and words that I can retain as a template? TIA, Jim

Yes turn on rulers. "View> Rulers" then you can drag out guides from the rulers. Drag out two vertical guides to designate each edge of the center spine. It's also helpfull to enlarge the canvas area by about 3% or so to add some bleed.

If your not familiar with photoshop the descriptions might sound a bit vague.

Anyone willing to post or e-mail a template, or know of a tutorial that gives pretty complete instructions? TIA, Jim

I'd be happy to upload mine but it exceeds the maximum file size (template is 755KB).

I have an action that I would sell for $10. The only reason I charge is that it does take a lot of time to make a "working" action that entirely creates a dvd case cover but still allows customizing such as adding your own photos.

Anyways the link below will take you to what the action will create. If nothing else it will give you a guide from which to modify.

Hope this helps and hope I'm not over stepping the boundaries of being commercial.

Re: [jamessmurphy623] Photoshop DVD cover template [In reply to] Can't Post

hey James ..I have just the template for you..I use CD Stomper DVD inserts and purchase them in bulk form. The template works with almost any pre cut DVD insert. After you design the insert, turn off the template layer and print. This way the template markings wont print on the paper...Another trick is if you don't wanna spend all the $$$ on pre cut forms. Just design the insert and print on A4 photo paper. This way you don't waste the precut ones if it doesn't line up with the cuts..then just use a trimmer for a perfect fit ... you can email me and I'll send it you ya ......Happy printing Smile
