Simple PS question on extracting Can't Post

Alright...I'm trying out the demo version of PS and I love it. However it is causing me to pull my hair out when it comes to extracting a subject from the background of a photo. I'm able to extract the subject very well with teh magic wand tool, but I can't seem to lose the white matte behind it. I want to import the extracted PS photo into vegas for a montage...I know this is pretty simple, but it's got me befuddled. The only thing I can get into vegas is a photo of an extracted subject with a white background (in place of the background I extracted). Please help a newbie to PS, I love this software.

What kind of file are you working with and importing into vegas? a psd file?

Once you import the psd file into your media pool. right click on the psd file to bring up the properties.

near the bottom is the alpha channel drop down menu. My guess is that you probably have it set at "none"

Make sure this option is set to "premultiplied".

that should fix your problem.

Thanks for the tip. I've been working with PSDs and JPEGs both. Can I use the same technique on a JPEG?

No. A jpeg doesnt retain any alpha (transparency) information

Thanks Tim. I'll stick to PSDs.
