photoshop 7.0 question Can't Post
How can I disable those automatic net update things that keep happening when I start up photoshop (7.0)? I'm on a mac, G4.

The problem is that all of a sudden, it's hanging up on the update and I'm getting the spinning beachball of death. I have to force quit, so there's no opening the program. Maybe if I disconnected the network connection it would open without doing the update? But if I get into the program, is there any way to disable those automatic update thingys?

Hey Velma:

I think that's a preferences thing. I think you could probably dump your preference documents and you might be able to get in. Hopefully you don't have really complicated preferences though. I've found Photoshop can sometimes be like Final Cut where the preferences mess up the program.

Hope you don't mind that I moved your question, Nancy.

Those auto updates ARE annoying, aren't they...even when they work. I'm not sure about Photoshop, but it may work like Adobe Acrobat. One of the Acrobat plugins is the "call up and check for updates" feature. You can disable this, or any file, by:
1. Making a copy of it for safekeeping, and putting the copy in some other folder (as long as you don't name the folder "plugins"!)
2. Deleting or changing the file extension of the offending plugin.

But before you start tinkering with the Plugins folder, first check Photoshop's Preferences. I vaguely recall a setting there which controls its behavior in checking for updates.

no, of course I don't mind you moving it. I didn't even think about posting it here. Hopefully there is a way to change the preferences, IF I can get into the program to change it. I'll try trashing my preferences like Renny suggested. Maybe that will get me into the program.
