1st wedding with R44. I love it but... Can't Post

i had to change the 4 AA batteries 3 times during the reception alone, missed the special dances audio. the fact you have to plug this into a wall throws a huge monkey wrench in my setup now. is there any portable battery solution to make this thing run 4 channels for 5 hours?

holy crap, i just checked my audio flies. does 4x1 mean it mixes 4 channels to 1? i screwed up, should i have recorded 4 mono for 4 separate audio tracks?

maybe i can put the card back in and play the r44, monitor each track separately out to make 4 individual tracks for mixing?

Unless your NLE can't handle the 4 X1 files, I prefer it the best...especially if you are moving files from one drive to another (easier management). e-Lithium batteries will give you the longest run time...I had tested them to almost 6 hours recording 4 X1 with four channels of phantom power enabled.

i only opened up the WAV file in quicktime just to check really quick. i use FCP, so how does this work. if i import the wav file into FCP it will create 4 tracks? also where do i get these batteries? does BH have 16 gig cards that are compatible? thanks in advance mark

B&H doesn't carry the factory recommended 16gb cards. I'm still using 8gb SanDisc cards myself...hoping the price will come down on the Panasonic cards.

Wjen you import the 4X1 file, it will show up as 4 seperate tracks under one file (which makes it so neat to use). However, the only drawback is you need to have good cards in the recorder. e-lithium battteries are available just about anywhere....

thats great new about the 4x1 files in fcp, ill have to test it later.
as far as the e-liths id rather use your exact brand/model being that you have good results, did you buy them at bh, do they have an actual name, how do i find them or search for them.

is there any place that sells compatible 16gig cards? amazon maybe?

Amazon and many others carry the e-lithiums
http://www.amazon.com/...2-Pack/dp/B00003IEMD

Myself, I use just standard AAs (mostly for back-up) and I use a Tekkeon MP3300 battery pack.

I'm not sure if there is any US distributor for the manufacture's recommended 16gb cards.

Someone reported on the Tapers forum success with the PNY Class 4 cards...here are the links (amazon)

16GB: http://www.amazon.com/...223838484&sr=8-2

32GB: http://www.costco.com/...p;lang=en-US&s=1

Given the price, I may try the 16gb card myself. The only problems I've ran into before is the card faltering on the 4 X 1 recording setup. Inferior cards start to get behind on the capture and eventually go into error...not good.

Adam, for powering, I don't use internal AA batteries. But I do have them installed, just in case.

What I use for power are Tekkeon Mypower MP3700 (longest lasting) or MP3450 batteries. Both should let you run your R-44 all night if needed or close to it.
If you have AA batteries installed as well, you will run on the Tekkeon battery first (since it's recognized as external plug in power), then if this runs out will switch to use of the internal AA batteries.

What I like about the Tekekon batteries are that they are switchable to whatever power output you like 9v/12v etc..
Also, the power adapter tips are very easy to use.
Just remember that Edirol uses a reverse polarity wiring. So you have to attach the power adapter tip backwards to supply power properly to the Edirol.

The batteries themselves run great though. I belive Mark uses the M3450's, and I use the longer running MP3700's.

Adam....you can also make a battery pak if you are a little electronically inclined. Get either a c or d cell 6 battery holder from radio shack and the correct size plug for the unit. Solder the plug(and wire) to the holder making sure the plug center is neg and the outside is positive.
MAKE SURE YOUR UNIT IS REVERSE POLARITY. I OWN THE R-4 AND IT IS REVERSED. DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE R-44.
Not as pretty a solution as the Tekkeon....but a whole lot cheaper!

Mark

disclaimer....I am not responsible if you (or anyone else) screws up and blows up your unit. I checked the output of the power supply a hundred times 'cause I just couldn't believe someone would make it reverse polarity.

Adam, I will second Michael's recommendation of the Tekkeon batteries. They are reliable & long-lasting. I've been using the one I have for four years.
