Beachtec adaptor question Can't Post

I'm using the adaptor on An FX1. I have two mics. When set to Stereo, I hear only the left channel mic. When set to mono, I hear both mics, but only in the left channel. How do I fix it so I hear left channel mic in left side, & rt. Channel mic through rt side.

Thx

I maybe wrong, but from what you're describing, sounds like you don't have the beachtec's 1/8" plug fully inserted into the input jack on the FX1.

I thought that might be it too. I double checked the plug. I'll check again for good measure.

One way to narrow the problem would be to connect the adapter to another camera or recorder and see if the same problem exists....

This may sound stupid, but do you have the Beachtek set to stereo or mono?

Also if you are happy with the Beachtek then great. I also use FX1's with XLR boxes, but gave up on the Beactek boxes, as I found a better alternative.

If you think that you can do better with your audio, then take a look at the Juicedlink XLR adapters. They are soooooo much quieter than the Beachtek boxes. Mainly this is due to the built in (ultra low noise) active pre amps, which keeps the noise floor down quiet.
Every XLR box Beachtek sells except for their most expensive model don't have active pre amps, so there is quite a difference in how the audio sounds. The Beachteks are much noisier. I know I used to use them. there is a lso a real good comparrison online on the Juicedlink site. It also doesn't hurt that the Juicedlinkboxes are much cheaper than the Beachteks.

Sorry to get off track, but I thoght that you might like the info for future reference.

So, the problem was definitely the 1/8" connector. I pulled it out just a bit, and that fixed the problem. It's one of those pesky adapters where you have to hit the sweet spot just right. What causes that problem?

It could be a crimped wire, or lose connection from the board to the 1/8 cable.

BTW, one of the nice things about the Juicedlink boxes I mentioned above is that the 1/8 cable plugs in on both ends (1/8 to your camera and 1/8 to the JL box itself). So if there is a problem with the cable, which I did have, you can simply get a new 1/8 to 1/8 cable and swap it out.

But it seems that you may have a loose connection somewhere. You might want to contact beachtek and have them service it.
