Cannot open H2 wav file Can't Post

I used the H2 at yesterdays wedding to record the piano. Today I transfered the file to the pc, but I can't open it or move it to a Vegas timeline. So I put the SD card back in the H2 and tried to play the file in the H2......no luck. I had the H2 set to: wav 48khz/24bit.

My troubles got even worse when I opened up the Iriver recording that was connected to the church sound board via the head phone jack and saw that straight flat line all the way threw the file. The new sound guy did something, not sure what.Unsure

Here's the file properties of the bad H2 file:

General
Name: STE-000.wav
Folder: E:\Caldwell\Audio
Type: Wave Sound
Size: 1.09 GB (1,114,866,574 bytes)
Created: Sunday, October 12, 2008, 4:40:30 PM
Modified: Monday, January 01, 2007, 9:20:00 AM
Accessed: Sunday, October 12, 2008, 5:25:13 PM
Attributes: Archive
Other metadata
Regions/markers: no
Command markers: no
Media manager
Media tags: no

I made two more recordings with the H2 at the reception that turned out ok.

I wonder what happened and can this sound file be saved?

Thanks
Tim

Were you absolutely sure it was recording? An annoying feature of the H2 is the double hit you must do to start the recording...

I'm definitely no expert on this but your modified date is 2007 and the creation date is 2008. Can you set the date and time on your computer to a date after the creation date and then open the file so the dates are appropriate. Don't think it will matter but it's worth a shot.

Shouldn't TV's Discovery Channel be on a different station every day?

Not absolutely, but the file size is 1.09GB.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The other two files that were ok say the same thing. Maybe thats when the card folder was created, or something along that line.Unsure

You may want to make sure and set the date and time in you H2....don't think it matters but why not have it right. Otherwise, I'm at a loss with that problem. I know my NLE (Edius) had trouble with 96/24 files but Vegas should use anything you throw at it. I just stick with 48/24 files....that's really plenty for all I need.

woops...I missed that...

I wonder if the file header somehow got corrupted. Do you have a Linux box or a friend that has one? Maybe you will be able to open it there and repair it....just a thought....

Re: [Mark Foley] Cannot open H2 wav file [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't have access to Linux. I did get Goldwave to open the file, but it wouldn't open as a .wav.....I'm not sure what file type it finally open as, but what ever it was, when I played it, the complete file was a real high pitched screeching sound. I don't think I can trust that because Goldwave didn't open as .wav.

First thing I would try is to open the file in another application (like Quicktime) and export it for 48/16. Perhaps there is something about it being in 24 bit that isn't working.

If you can get it into the timeline you should turn on audio waveforms and see if there actually is audio there.
