Do Giant Squid mics work with the Zoom H2 recorder? Can't Post

I haven't ordered mine yet but some folks have been telling me my Giant Squid mics work with the Zoom H2 recorder.

Since the weekend two emailed saying they get no sound.

Do Giant Squid mics work with the Zoom H2?

They work fine Darren...the user must enable phantom power (menu selected)

Darren, Mark is right. I know of at least two people who recently said that your mics didn't work with their new H2 recorders. The problem both times was that they didn't turn on mic power in the H2's menu.

Your mics rock Darren.

I am going to use the Zoom Saturday for the first time. I like
the irivers for voice recording. But, I will have 1 MD, 3 irivers,
and a Zoom and G2 wireless. I have a 128, 256 and 512 unit.

Hey Bruce
Check out ebay on the Irivers, over the past month I have bought for me and a friend 4 880's, 2 895's,and 2 890's all with an average price of 25.00 shipped! All work fine (the 880's are factory referbished)

Just do a search for " ifp " but read each ad carefully.

Hal's minidisc for sale in the Trading Post section would
give you MUCH better sound than an iRiver.

Which one Scott? (H2 or H4?)

What will you be doing with it?

I'd be interested in knowing how your first experience with it worked out.

I got the H2. I should have it today. I am going to use it
to record off soundboards from both churches and bands/djs.
It took me long enough to realize, but for those of you using
iRivers, NOT having VU Meters, is a major drawback, and NOT
having AGC (auto gain control) I will post audio samples this weekend.

That model that Hal is offering is HiMD, which means
you can upload the file (similar to what you do with
an iRiver) rather than doing the capture in real
time, as what you do with the non-HiMD
minidiscs. (You can still capture the real-time
way if you want to.)

That model that Hal offers is one of the most
recent models out. B&H was carrying it about
a year back. Good price on it right now, what
Hal is asking.

Scott/all,
For future use...

If you plan on using the H2 for multiple recording processes throughout the day, configure/label a SD card just for that event. It is so easy in the rush of the day when using one of these devices to forget the menu settings parameters. Since the SD card remembers those settings, having one labeled for "voice capture" for instance (with the plug-in power enabled..etc) makes for easier setup in the field with less chance for errors.

edit...also...keep a piece of electrical tape handy on the H2 to cover the on/off switch once the unit is recording...this will keep others from "trying to help you" Laugh

Would you let us know how you like the H2? I'm still looking to purchase one of these recording devices.

Re: [Linda] Do Giant Squid mics work with the Zoom H2 recorder? [In reply to] Can't Post

Linda, a great place to do research on all of these small recorders is the Tapers boards. All of these users are podcasters and use recorders in live recording situations (mostly concealed or very compact setups. Which is great for what we do.) and are fanatical about their recorders.
This is a plcae where myself and Mark get a lot of early info on units, providing we don't buy one ourselves. If you have the time, just register to the forum and checkout the Receording Gear section. Or do a search for Edirol R09, Zom H4, Zoom H2, Microtrack, and you will get a lot of very useful information.

Overall I think that Scott is going to love using the H2. Especially coming from using iRivers.
Zoom has never had the best reputation for producing top quality gear. And as what was said, their are better recorders out there.
But for the price the H4 or H2 is hard to beat.
