How does the Sennheiser E604 work with the iRiver? Can't Post

I am thinking about not connecting into the DJ board anymore. That being said I wanted some feed back on the Sennheiser E604.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/149275-REG/Sennheiser_E_604_E604_Microphone.html

*I just need a XLR to 1/8th stereo cable (XLR from the E604 and 1/8th male into the iRiver) is this correct?

*Does the E604 hook on the speakers that well?

*Does the iRiver power the E604? (or does it not need power)

*Most important how good is the audio that you record from this set up on the DJ's speaker?

As all ways Thanks for your input!

1. Yes you would need an XLR to 1/8th Stereo Cable
2. Not really with the provided hooks, I've always used the e604 on a mic stand
3. The e604 works with the iRiver without any additional battery power
4. I've only used this set up for Micing a Speaker During the Ceremony cause MP3'ing a Reception is not my cup of tea, however I do use the e604 in conjunction with my Sennheiser Wireless Unit and it sounds awesome and can take some serious loudness at close range.

I do have to pose a question though, why not record wireless directly into your Camera? MP3'ing a reception just seems very tedious in post production to me.

He's right..don't mp3 a reception. Unless you do a documentary cut. I only include about 20 minutes of reception stuff and that would be a nightmare.

I use it with my wireless as well and it sounds very good.

Yes your right, it would seem tedious.
How would I plug the E604 into my wireless transmitter that I usually use on the groom.
I have the AKG Wireless PT81.

You would need a male XLR to male mini-XLR cable. You would probably have to build it or have it built. AKG does make a mini-XLR to 1/4" plug, and then you could use a 1/4" female to male XLR adapter. This is basically what I do with my Sennheiser since I don't have a butt plug transmitter.

"You would need a male XLR to male mini-XLR cable."

I typed in "Male XLR to Male Mini" on B&H's search and found the cable. Give that a try!

Marco, I have had great success using soundprofessionals.com for my audio cable purchases. They have made many custom cabes for me, especially when I used to have my Microtrack.

If you contact them via email or phone and tell them what you want to connect, then they will lookup you equiptments wiring specs and devlop the cable for you with the exact wired specs that you need. They have done this often for me with my Samson micro32 wireless that uses a mini xlr plug.

I can't recommend them enough.

Michael

Cameras: I do use them.
Audio: Yes, it does come with audio if you like.
Software: I am learning...
Support: I need all that i can get.
Computer: MAC BABY!

It usually sucks ass. I do it every wedding. But hey, it's only a backup that I split off of a wireless and very seldom need to rely on. (Except my current edit Sly)

What others here aren't telling you is your audio is only as good as the e604 placement in front of the DJ's speaker. That's critical whether you're using an iRiver or not. Place it too much on the woofer and it'll clip. Too far the other way and the "highs" will force you to add some bass in post. Dialog is pretty easy to fix but if you need the music, like a rare Bavarian two-step rap song nobody's ever heard of it can be a chore to make sound acceptable.

My e604 is mounted about 5 inches away right on the edge of the bass. But every freaking DJ has different quality speakers with different sounds so it's often a crap shoot.

I ain't helpin' much am I? Laugh

Yes, your helping very much! I had know idea that the placement of the E604 has a lot to do with the quality.

Thank you for all your comments!
