M-Audio Firewire 410: horrible quality audio Can't Post

Ok so its not audio for video.....its more audio for....audio! Wink

Anyway, I was going to throw this out there just for the heck of it. Any VU'ers use a FW410 with GarageBand or Logic? I'm an extremely green user on what I am predicting to be the extreme left side of a massive learning curve. I just started playing around with Garage band and bought the 410 so I could have a few mic inputs. Well I finally got everybody to recognize each other but the audio quality is terrible. First the delay of the audio is so long that it is impossible to monitor it during recording sessions. Then the audio is filled with a ton of sizzling and pops. I am not sure if maybe I didn't set it up properly initiially, the instructions were not exactly flawless. Anyway, any advice or feedback would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

Bill,
This is just a guess, honestly. I have the M-Audio 44. It is a PCI based breakout box. With a hard connection and midi cable, I've had no problems (after the tedious setup like yourself). I wonder if you have a bad firewire cable. If you can replace the cable, do so. If that doesn't cure it, I'd send it back because it may be the box itself.

Bill,
I have little (actually none) experience with the 410 and even less with Mac things.... However, with that said, doing some internet research I found many instances of Mac users reporting very poor audio with this setup. It seems the problem is focused around driver issues that M-audio has not or will not address. I did find a similar priced unit with really good feedback from users...
