Many recorder samples here Can't Post

Pardon me if this site's been referred to already:

http://www.wingfieldaudio.com/...r-sound-samples.html

It's got samples of most portable recorders being discussed here in the forum. I'm particularly impressed at how the cheaper recorders like the H2 are holding up to something like the Edirol and Marantz.

I'm still looking into one of these but can't decide. It didn't take me this long to buy my house. Sly

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't hear any of them.

Maybe that's my problem ... I've gone deaf!!!

In certain conditions, the H2 will make great recordings...it really shines (as Michael has pointed out several times) when it is mounted on a mic stand and used in a microhone/recorder process. Its 4 channel record capability makes for great ambient sound beds. I doesn't handle external mics as well as I would like and its dimensions are just a bit too much to fit comfortably into a pocket. It is a big step up from an iRiver...in that you can record uncompressed which is much more ideal when trying to capture musical instuments. It can handle line-in voltage much better than the iRiver and give you better monitoring of the signal.

Although I use my H2 at every gig (mostly for surround sound track), I never liked its build quality...stands to reason as it is built in China/crap. The Marantz, on the other hand; looks/feels/behaves more like a professional piece of gear...

Yep, it's pretty slow and you need to give the site some time to load. I think it caches all the sound files first before you can play them. Once done though playback is instantaneous. I think the author wanted you to be able to compare each sample quickly.

Yep that pretty much sums up the H2.
It's great for quick setup and go surround sound recording using its internal mics.

As for using external mics and line in, it's alright, but not great.
but that's what i use my other recorders for if needed.

All said I prefer using the H2 with its internal mics over my Marantz PMD620 and Edirol R09. But prefer the PMD620 and R09 for everything else.
