Miking the Bride

Can't Post

Thought I'd post this here for those that think its interesting... for the naysayers, just go find another thread to read. So far I have done this twice and both brides said the only negative thing was actually wearing the garter! So, 2 out of 2 being successfull mikings, I think its good to offer if you want. What I use: iRiver 795 w/sport case that has a "belt clip" (it came with one of my last iRiver purchases.) GS Omni mic w/4 foot cable and specially made WITHOUT the clip! Gaffer's Tape What I do: 1- PRIOR to the bride putting on her dress, I tape the mic to the inside of the dress about 1/2" from the top dead center and let the 4' cord hand down the front of the dress. 2- When she puts on her dress, one of her bridesmaids holds the mic in place to not let it come loose and another holds the bottom of the cord so it doesn't get "lost". 3- When she is dressed and presentable, I enter the room and hook up the iRiver. 4- She has her garter on her leg (if not, have her put it on.) With the 4' cord, I don't come close to her "sensitive areas". I plug the iRiver to the cord, get it recording. 5- I simply then (both brides allowed me to do this, but she can do it if she's not comfortable with you) simply use that belt clip case and attach it to the garter on the top or outside of her leg. 6- At the end of the ceremony, catch up with her, Remove the iRiver from the garter, stop recording, unplug the iRiver from the mic. Have her remove the mic at the top of her dress and gently pull the cord up and out of the dress. This has worked extremely well and great success! The only drawbacks would be if she has a tight fitting dress where the iRiver on her leg would show, but to date, I can only think of one dress that a bride wore that would pose this problem... also, if the mic is totally covered by the dress--meaning, no "air gap" between the dress and body. Now some of you may wonder why I do this and that you can get this with your wireless setup and even normal iriver setup... well, good for you! I had a case of "whisperers" and this would have helped that situation greatly! I don't use wireless anymore and prefer not using wireless, that way, I can't be blamed for interference with other systems. Well, they can blame me if they are ignorant enough, but once educated its not broadasted, then they'll understand. Tips on successful miking of the bride... 1- Have a good rapport with her! 2- Explain the benefits of having her vows as clear as possible! 3- Explain how the process works. 4- BE PROFESSIONAL! 5- Have someone else in the room when you do it...
