Miking the Priest Can't Post

Oh, oh!

It looks like we might be headed for trouble. This is as far as I have got with adding the iRiver sound. You can see where the Giant Squid lapel mike is attached to his "cape" - what is that thing called? He became more eloquent in his gestures later on.

I suspect that there will be a lot of thumping and rustling on the iRiver sound track. Perhaps I should avoid that placement in future? This was the first "Mass" where I have miked the priest. Another lesson learnt.

Cheers

Re: [Howard Neill] Miking the Priest [In reply to] Can't Post

Audio-wise, Catholic weddings can be a bugaboo, specifically when the priest doesn't want to wear a mic. In those ceremonies, I'll mike the groom and podium (for reading) and even the table if allowed. But because the priest is all over the place, he only sounds good when he's near one of the other mics. They're also the least likely to want to wear a mic.

As far as the mic placement, I think it looks fine and should sound ok. I've had them put the mic under the robe before, and you do hear the rustling of the fabric.

In that case we might have trouble with last Saturday's wedding. I miked the priest and all was fine until the Mass, when he put another (thin) garment on top of the existing one. I will wait and see. It was a small church and we had four cameras running in different locations, so we should salvage something.

I've had many priests not want to wear a mike but never had one refuse me. I just keep asking and keep smiling and finally they give in maybe so I'll leave them alone. Plugging into to the soundboard of the church can also work but it's more of a risk.

'Tis nuthin', Howard. It's just all the vertical letters in a row that makes the optical illusion happen. It's not your typing at all.

Wouldn't it be "mic" not "mike" ..."microphone"

True, but then it would be micing or miccing. The iRiver is so amazing...it mices, it dices...

I think it's still officially/unofficially miking. Like I said; nothing wrong with what Howard typed. Just an optical illusion of sorts.

BTW, none of our selections appear in the dictionary provided here for spellchecking. We get mixing missing, making, musing, masking, mucking, mocking, mugging, messing, mekong, massing, mashing, makings, maximizing, musings, maskings, missions, maxims, masons, masonic as suggestions but none of our words rung true.
