Olympus LS-10 Recorder Can't Post

Who knows anything about this? It's getting better reviews than the Marantz PMD620.

I can't find the size of this thing in any of the specs though. Not sure if it can be put in a pocket:

If in fact it will fit in a pocket, it will indeed be another good option for a portable recorder...good audio specs

Specs and reports from those who have purchased them (on tapersforum) say it should easily fit in a pocket.

Do we know if the hold button locks down the recorder...like the rec level thumbwheel? If it does, then I see no problems, if it doesn't, I could see a potential point of failure and it would be prone to an accidental "adjustment" when handling....

I don't speak millimeters so I had to convert the dimensions:

It's roughly 5.25" x 2" x 1". Very doable in a groom's pocket.

Btw Rick, I just saw this in the Sweetwater catalog this weekend and thought that it might be of great interest to you.

Yamaha Pocketrak 2G

I don't think you will find anything smaller than this recorder from Yamaha.

Re: [RT Steele] Olympus LS-10 Recorder [In reply to] Can't Post

Possible bad news for the LS-10...From what the tapers are reporting it doesn't do seamless splits. When the recorder arrives at 2GB, it saves the file and stops. This may not impact you if you're only recording for short periods of time or using a compressed format (which defeats the purpose of an external-type recorder)

Yeah Mark, I discovered this issue also but didn't think to come back here. (I should have though).

Here's an excerpt about this from Olympus:

Product Manager Kussmaul replied, "Let me explain more about this frequently misunderstood issue. The original Microsoft WAV file standard requires the 2GB file limit. The D50 adheres to this original standard to ensure recordings can be accessed on virtually any computer with any application. We could have chosen another linear PCM file format that allows for file sizes in excess of 2GB; however, not all D50 users would be able to easily access the files using their existing applications. An update to the D50 exceeding the 2GB limit could result in many users needing to change out the applications they use."

What a load of "back-pedaling" horseshit. Like anybody needs another "application" other than basic file/copy routines built into the OS to read an SD card these days. Basically, if something doesn't do what people want it to do... just blame Microsoft. Laugh

I'll bet you a dollar they change their tune on this within 4 months.

I bet they will...it is a shame as it looks to be a pretty good piece of equipment...
