Okay, well I use Premiere Pro, and I think it automatically confirms any audio that is inported in to a project to 16 bit 48khz. So... If I record something at 24 bit 48khz that shouldn't present a problem should it. I mean not if Premiere is cong to cut that down to 16 bit 48khz, right?

My questions here is why record it in 24 bit if the editing software is going to setp it down to 16 bit? Seems like I remember so talk that you should record in the highest format possible though.

I haven't worked in Premeire in ages as I work in Vegas and now training in FCP, but as far as I know, most NLE's won't convert the audio up or down. But rather have to be converted to the recording rate being used in the video.

The reason to record at a higher rate is to get as much audio information in your file as possible. This way, when the audio is down converted, it will sound better than if originally captured at the lower value audio. Just like taking HD footage and down rendering it for SD. You have more information there for better color reproduction then original SD.

Well... Premiere Pro does a procedure called "conforming" when you import any audio into a project. My understanding is that it conforms it to the project settings. My project settings are always 16 bit 48khz. So, my concern is: If I record audio on the R-4 or the Zoom H4 at 24 bit 96khz then import it into my NLE with a project setting of 16 bit 48Khz will I have a problem maintaining sync throughout the entire length of the video, or does premiere solve that problem by "conforming" audio files upon import?

Sorry, don't know. As I said I don't use Premeire.

You might start another thread stating your audio concerns and Premeire to those who use it.
