Tall Mic Stand Can't Post

I need to buy the tallest mic stand I possibly can. Even if it's a light stand that can take a mic attachment.

May I recommend the Bogen Combi Boom.

It extends very very tall, or can also be used as a boom. I love it and use it for both mic booming as well as light booming for use as a hair light.

According to the site it goes up 13 feet. That's not tall enough. I like to record the church speakers as a back up and sometimes they are very high in the church.

I saw a videographer who had one that was about 20 feet tall. That's why I suspected it might have been an altered light stand.

Might have been Joel from Wedding Films. They show him using something with a camera that is pretty tall. Not sure if that is what you are referring to.

Not sure if it is 20 feet but it mentions about 16 feet. Don't think Joel is around here anymore but you could find him via his site I am sure. Seems a light stand would be pretty easy to rig up for a mic mount if you can get one high enough.

Shouldn't TV's Discovery Channel be on a different station every day?

Re: [Kenneth] Tall Mic Stand [In reply to] Can't Post

I came across an interesting solution to create a very tall mic stand. I took an old light stand I haven't used in years (I used to attach a 500 watt tota, remember those days, lol). B&H has a three section extension pole that easily attaches to the top and adds an additional 92" of height. This bad boy now goes VERY high. Here's a link.

Prior to the wedding business and my earlier audio experience, I use to be a bit against passive capture until I started doing it at receptions where the DJ felt uncomfortable giving me a feed. However, I soon found out that doing that process, if your were using the right equipment, yielded great results.

With that said, I am/was still a little hesitant with passive capture in the church/venue (wasn't sure how it would look). I'm starting to think, if you have good access to the church speakers, this could probably be a good choice for two reasons. You don't have to rely on the sound guy to give you a feed, second, you can set it up on your time...not when the sound guy is available or willing.

I may explore getting an extension for one of my light stands myself.

An often overlooked benefit of capturing the audio this way is that you are capturing what the guests heard. I mic on the officiant will get you much better results, but it's also not what the guests heard.

Please let us know how the tall mic stand works once you use it as I like the idea for simplicity. As long as the church don't mind and if you use a really good mic/recorder combo, I think this is a great way to capture everything going through the church's system that you are not already capturing elsewhere or as a backup to your capture.

I got the Sennheiser EW 100 wireless mics yesterday and they sound incredible. Thanks for the tip on those.

I'm planning on using my Sennheiser EW100 Wireless mic and feed a receiver to the R44. This should give ultimate portability/minimal footprint for the setup. I just need to get a rack receiver...watching a few on ebay to fit my needs....

Going to get the extension that David at DMS Video suggested (thanks David) and I believe I will be in business for the "Kenneth Tall Mic Capture Process" Sly

Thanks again Kenny for giving me an excuse to buy more audio stuff MadWink

Re: [Mark Foley] Tall Mic Stand [In reply to] Can't Post

Right now I am on a search for the ultimate sound case. I want to be able to have the R44 sitting at the bottom of the case and have 4 EW 100's attached to the lid somehow with their cables already connected to the R44. Plus it will have a storage compartment for the transmitters.

The objective is to have all units loaded with new batteries before I leave the house so that when I get to the church all I have to do is place the case close to the altar, flip open the lid, fire 'em up, and hit record.

Nothing from Pelican has a way to attach something to the lid, so I might look into Anvil or Calzone cases.

I use something a whole lot cheaper to move my stuff around....

http://www.stanleytools.com/...B+Mobile+Work+Center

pretty cheap at wal-mart and others. I attach some gorilla velcro to the top of the Stanley and to the bottom of the R44....
