Using H2 on podium Can't Post

I'm pretty sure I saw it posted once before, but I can't locate it ...

I thought some or someone said they used the H2 on the podium for the Homily and readers. My question is ... if you're doing this ... how? I can see running a mic to the H2 with the H2 hidden on the floor, so that's no issue ... but is there anyway to get it on the podium without it being in the way so we would be able to use the built-in microphones? (Without someone yelling because you used gaffer's tape.)

I normally use my Marantz PMD620 fro readings and homily, but have used my H2 as well.
I simply place the H2 on the lectern and use the internal mics on 120 degree spread. I have even stood the H2 upright on the lectern and recorded this way. To date placing the recorder on the lectern hasn't gotten in the way. You can even clamp it to the lectern if you like. Lots of options to use the onboard mics.

If you prefer using a plug in mic, you could place the H2 in the lectern and then run a lav mic into the 1/8 port and tape it to the gooseneck mic on the lectern.

I see no need to run a mic if you have good internal mics. Another way if you prefer is to place the H2 near the church PA systems and capture this way.

Re: [MLiebergot] Using H2 on podium [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks Michael, but most of the lecterns that I see are slanted. (At least that's how I'm remembering them.) I know I can set up my cute little H2 tripod up on a flat, level surface ... but even then I'm a bit paranoid about it getting knocked off.

I would much prefer to use the unit's mics so that's why I asked. Maybe I'm perceiving a problem that doesn't exist.

I usually use my iRiver for this function, but I'm trying to get away from the iRiver as much as possible ... which also means that I'm closely monitoring another thread on good recorders to use on the groom and officiant. I desperately need to improve my overall audio capabilities.

Most of my lecterns are slanted as well, but they have a lip (ledge) at the bottom that holds papers and such for readings.
I simply place the H2 on the lectern resting on the lip. I setup the area so that the H2 sits slightly off to the side.

Thanks ... I'll look into that as my first choice next time out.

I got a couple of these silicone jackets for my H2's, from "Unique Squared" on eBay...they only $8.95+$3.95 for shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/...?hash=item33560ddaa7

They make your H2 stick to the podium like glue, in addition to adding a lot of protection to the H2. Cool Not as safe as using gaffers tape, but it keeps the church ladies from attaking you because of all the idiot video guys that apparently use duct tape.

I also usually put them face down, using the 120degree mic on the back for readings.

Good luck!

Interesting jackets. I love my H2, but have always worried if it would handle a tumble. As for duct tape ... never. No wonder people get nasty with us.

I just picked up 2 H4n units and will be trying one out tonight at the dress rehearsal of a show. I'm not sure if I'll keep the second one or not.

As for weddings ... I'm considering looking at the unit you purchased for the groom. Lot's of options.
