8mm to Mini DV using a XL1 Can't Post

I want to transfer some old 8mm movies to mini DV using my XL1. I found some info on how to set up a camera and use a white foam board spray painted flat white to project onto. They also suggested that I set the camera above and behind the projector and the projected image to be approximately 2 feet wide. But before I start, I want to know if anyone has a formula for the XL1 light settings so I can tape at super high quality. I will be using a 27" TV monitor to view as I tape just as a precaution.. Any help on this topic would be most appreciated..
Thanx,
glen

Re: 8mm to Mini DV using a XL1 Can't Post

Glen,
Make sure you turn off the Auto Gain Control - It artificially makes images brighter
in low light conditions at the expense of image quality. Use manual
exposure, shutter speed and focus settings to keep them constant and prevent
'drifting'. For best results, block out all other light in the room and paint the foam
board an even matte white. If possible, connect the XL1 to the TV via the S-Video
(Y/C) connector for a higher quality image.
