Anton Bauer Trim Pack (Battery) / XL1 Can't Post

I purchased the Anton Bauer Trim Pack digital batteries and because I use a Studio 1 Audio adapter I had to design my own battery compartment. With that aside, Anton Bauer claims by using these batteries gives you 41/2 hrs operation time. (per battery) Well, I have been very disapointed. I was shooting using no top light and no AF and if the batteries gave me over an hour of operation I was lucky. The batteries were fully "BALANCED" charged. I will be contacting Anton Bauer. Until then anyone else using these batteries on their XL1?

Re: Anton Bauer Trim Pack (Battery) / XL1 Can't Post

While developing our AB configuration of the Power Brace, we tested the AB HyTron 50 (50wh) and the Proformer (30wh). They delivered exactly what they are rated for. The HyTron 50 run the camera for over 4 hours, the Proformer was over 2 h. The Trim Pack should run XL-1 for over 3 hour.
Try to hit the Standby button every time you stop the camera, as in "Pause" the XL-1 uses the same power as in "Record", effectively reducing the run time. Also, keep in mind that with XL-1, AF does not use any additional power, as it is electronic.
Another issue to consider is the quality of the DC converter you are using. A good one should be at least 90% efficient. If it does not run hot, it is probably OK.
Hope this helps,
