Audio Technica AT815 Can't Post

Pirate A dealer has an AT815 microphone. He claims that it's a shoe-mount. I've looked at many sites and they all appear to be boom mics of 38mm long and fit for a pole, not a shoe. Can anyone confirm a shoe-mount variant.

I looked on the A-T site and agree that it looks like a standard pole mount. I'd ask the dealer to specify the mount number - maybe it's a third party mount that will handle the mic.

PirateWhat would be a good current model AT shotgun for my XM1/GL1. Something in the sub $300 price bracket.

None. Audio Technica don't make good mics, period.

Thinking of either the Sennheiser MKE300 or Azden SGM-2X. Any thoughts?

Well - your opinion is warranted ... but don't put a period behind that just yet.

I've been using Audio Teknika products for quite some time and they've been excellent - sound fidelity is broad, pickup patterns match their product lines - great stuff.

Now, they aren't Cadillacs, but then you don't pay a Cadillac price for them either. You pay a VW price and my track record with them is I'm getting a better than VW product for a VW price.

(LOL- Disclaimer: Nowadays a VW is about as expensive as a Cadillac - reference the old days LOL).

Yeah, OK. AT might have some good or all right products out there. I have just been very disappointed with their products whenever I've used them, so personally I feel they're just not worth spending money on.

And by the way, I prefer VW over Caddy. Wink

Don't know about you, but I'm nowhere NEAR an audio expert and can only go by what I've experienced so far. There probably is a plethora of products out there that would BLOW AUDIO TEKNIKA away and I've just never run into them.

My only point was that I use their wireless sets and their shotgun mikes (don't have the model numbers available at this time for the shotgun) and I find the quality to be awesome. Now, get someone that's an audiophile and they might think the sound quality is crapoli - to which I would then think that I need to get some new ears.

I just finished a science fiction short and used their shotgun mike on a home made boom pole (I made it out of vacuum cleaner extension parts - lighter than aluminum poles and collapsibleShocked) and jury rigged a connector to a shockmount with the AT mike inside. The audio was great, very high fidelity and seemed to me couldn't get much better.

Figuring they are the low price leader (AT) I'm sure they probably don't hold up to critical review compared to the SHURE's, SENNHEISER's and other great products out there.

BTW - give me a '67 VW van over an ELDO anyday SmileSmile
