Bad battery contacts Can't Post

My Canon XL1 is sometimes losing contact with the battery. It seems that the springs in the contacts are worn out. Do I have to send it in for repairs or is there something I can do myself?

Thanks!

Did you clean the contacts? A pencil eraser is one way to do it.
