Cannot play back tape properly on my Sony Camcorder Can't Post

Hi all,
I an using a GL1 or XM1 as it is called over here, and I have been using a Sony
Handycam camcorder as a playback device. Previously, it has no problem
playing back footages from my GL1, however since couple months ago, it
CANNOT playback the tape properly - with serious artifacts problem. I have to
use back my GL1 for playback and digitising nowadays. It seems to have mood,
sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.
What could have caused this and is there any way to fix this, I would not want
to use my GL1 for digitising and playback as it will wear and tear the tape
head, would getting a Canon brand camcorder solve the problem?
Please advise, thanks
Ken

I am in Brazil and have two XL-1 and one GL-1 camera. I also experienced that kind of problem with Panasonic AG-1000 player. I observed that there a small diferences between head alignment so that one camera do not play back tapes recorded on others. But the quality of the tapes are very important. I tested many diferent brands of tapes. With some tapes all works fine and with others not. So I think that there are tapes where the video is recorded with higher magnetic intensity compensating small diferences in head alignments of diferent cameras. Try testing some diferent tapes.

I just acquired a GL-1 and when I recorded some video with a Panasonic blank and played it on a AG-1000 I got garbled audio. I put in a Sony blank recorded some footage and it played back fine. From now on it is only Sony tapes!
