Canon GL2 Wide Angle Lens Can't Post

Any of you out there purchased or used the Canon WD58H wide angle lens adapter and hood ?

I can get one for about $180 (less shipping) and am considering doing so within the next day or two.

If you've tried it, do you find it to be of good quality ?

Replies appreciated

Re: [vidguyz] Canon GL2 Wide Angle Lens [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not a Canon owner, so YMMV.
I have heard nothing but good things about the WD58. It's great glass at a fraction of the cost (and weight) of the other big name lenses available.
I recently bought one for a Sony VX-2100 camera and absolutely LOVE it. I have left it on for 95%+ of my shooting since the lens arrived. I see no softening at the edges, I get full zoom through with no focus issues, and have zero vignetting. You will be a convert too, once you shoot with it.

Quick quesion for GL2 owners...sut since the GL2 has a longer zoom than Sony cams, would you see vignetting at full wide on it maybe? I'm not sure, I haven't heard anyone mention it before. Just a thought.

Matt - Thanks for your reply. The vignetting issue isn't really a concern for me for the particular application I plan on using the WA lens for.
As soon as I receive it and do my first shoot with it I'll let you know the outcome. Actually, I'll probably just post a sampler vid on my website.

Thanks Again

I use the WD58 on my GL1, which has the same lens as the GL2. It is a fantastic lens. Never go on a shoot without it. I've not noticed any vignetting.

Yep, the WA lens is fantastic - thanks for all the tips and replies.

No vignetting issue at this time, great glass, very minimum outer edge distortion. One great (and cheap) lens for one great pro-sumer camera.
Go Canon

I need 3 of these then. I'll do my search, but can someone direct me to a good vendor, or should I just ebay it?

I got one from BuyDig.com in a package type deal, and I see the outside of the lense in the viewfinder. I have to unscrew it a little so I don't see it.

B&H has consistently offered the best price on this item (that I could find anyway).

I know this thread is over a month old, but I'm wondering about wide lens shooting. How do you use and manage it in a wedding shoot? Do you use it for special shots? Do you switch it back and forth between different parts of the program?

Re: [bc] Canon GL2 Wide Angle Lens [In reply to] Can't Post

Some of my best looking camera angles have been with the lens at its widest. Since I never take the wide angle adapter off i am always going in and out of the wide angles provided by it. It really gets used everywhere. Strong vertical and horizontal lines, especially those in architecture, will be noticably bent. This could be problematic with stills and estabishment shots. The same can be said for close-ups and actin schots of the wedding dance floor, for example. However, the motion of both people and camera make the image distortion difficult to recognize easily.
The best thing to to is experiment.

Okay, I think I should look into this, especially for say a two camera shoot. I zoom for close-ups as much as I can and have the confidence to do, but I think a wide angle could also capture establishing shots and groups shots a lot better.
