Canon XL1s DV out	Can't Post

Is it possible to put an analog videosignal (and audio) into the input1 and then directly loop it through to the DV cable and my computer ?
I want to use the camera as a analog / digital convertor to digitize a VHS tape.

I have searched for this answer and tried many test.So far no joy!
I think a technician would be able to answer this but it would take some sort of diagnostic code to initiate it.
Any techs willing to spill the beans?
