Choppy audio in FCP from GL2 Can't Post

All,
I'm having a problem trying to capture from my GL2 on my Mac G5 dual 2 G using either Final Cut Pro or iMovie. When ever I capture the audio comes through either choppy or completely broken. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix?

Have you pinpointed the problem to be the camera? Have you played it back on other monitors or sources? have you successfully captured audio with other cameras? firewire loose? bad tape? dirty heads? too little RAM? it could be a lot of things.

Try to pinpoint that it is the GL2 and not another issue.

Cheers!

Andrew,
Thanks for the return post. Trouble shooting to date includes, Updating QuickTime, removing ALL other FW devices, Using other FW ports, Playback on TV using composite audio out and S-video out, and capturing using composite audio out and S-video out. I'm also trying to get another mini DV camera to try to capture with. Canon said they would be happy to check the FW port on the camera just ship the unit to them and it will take them 7 to 15 business days to check it out. I hope I don't have to go down that road this early in the camera's life. (It's only a week old) If you have any Ideas for me to try I'm wide open here.

TIA
Dave

If it won't capture on either iMovie or FCP, then it's probably not a Mac problem, since those apps use different native formats. If other FW devices work on the Mac's ports, then all is good there.

If the footage plays back OK on the cam, I'm be looking at the FW port on the camera and the cabling.

What audio mode are you using on the GL-2? I've seen people get into trouble when using 32KHz/12-bit.

RatVega,
Thanks for the post. Yeah I'm beginning to feel it's the FW port on the camera also. I'm trying to find a friend who has, and will lend me, another Mini DV camera so I can capture from it and see if the Mac, SW and cable are OK. I suspect they are. I'm just disappointed with the camera as it's all of 8 days old now. I called Canon and they say if I ship them the camera (at my expense) they will be happy to take 7 to 15 business days to check out the FW port. If this becomes the track record for this camera I'll be glad I bought the extended warrantee.

If it's an option for you, you might try speaking to the vendor. The service center hasn't any incentive to jump through a hoop, a vendor who wants to sell you more gear does. It seems to me that a week-old camera should be an exchange item, or deserves some type of accomodation.

Unfortunately the return was not going to happen. I did run some tests with another mini DV and pinpointed the problem to the FW port on the Canon GL2. So it's off to New Jersey with my new GL2 for 7 to 15 business days. Thanks for the help.
