Cleaning the heads Can't Post

Is there a book or intruction on how to clean a video GL & XL
camera? I heard that all that is needed is a can of air, special brush, Q- tips, and a solvent for the purpose. I know we wont get it from the manufactures such as Canon.

Re: Cleaning the heads Can't Post

Great questions.. I too have been looking for the answer.
I just recently bought a used XL1 in great shape with only 15 hrs on it and would like to clean the heads.
My question is, Do I really need to use the Canon DVM-CL Digital Video Head Cleaning cassette and how often.
I use Sony's Premium Cassettes..
thanx,
~g

Re: Cleaning the heads [In reply to] Can't Post

no. you do not need canons cleaner as brands make no difference in head cleaners.
are you sure you want to be cleaning the heads after only 15 hours? the rule of thumb is to ONLY clean the heads when you have to (if your experiencing frame drops or warning messages)... using the head cleaner is like using sandpaper on the heads... so you only want to do it when you really must and should only be used as a field fix

 Jerry,
Thanx for the follow-up. I'll take your advice and hold off on the "head job".
