GL1 for beginning filmmaking a good choice? Can't Post

Of course I'd like to have an XL1 but due to limited budget I really think the GL1 would be a great camera to have. I mostly want to shoot short films. And like the full manual mode and the "frame" mode option. It's also a more discrete camera for "unpermited" shooting.
Any thoughts on other cameras that might be a good choice? Also, GL1 users, do you see any shortcomings that I may find, as a beginning creative filmaker, with the GL1?

It's a fine cam. You might want to look at the VX2000 too. I do not know if it supports 30 fps in progressive scan.
