GL2 exposure problem Can't Post

while videoing a basketball game with my new GL2 (set on manual iris) I noticed that as I followed the action down the floor, the light level "jumped" up and down. (almost as if it was on auto setting and searching as I panned) Meanwhile, my panasonic was keeping a nice, even light level. Is this normal for the Canon?

If you are set ONLY to manual iris, the shutterspeed will still vary in auto mode.
the best thing to do in a situation like a basketball game - assuming that there are no variations in lighting on the floor/in the stadium or gym - is to use FULL manual mode.
That is, manual iris and manual shutter.

Cheers!

thanks for the reply....I am in full manual mode. shutter speed is set to 1/60...gain to 0. when the camera passes someting light in the background or a light spot on the floor the exposure seems to suddenly jump leaving the players darker until the light background has passed. there is no change in the iris number in the viewfinder. it almost acts as if it still is in auto mode.

I just did a test on my GL2 based on what you wrote. The phenomenon you are describing only happens if you are in TV mode (shutter speed priority) or AV mode (aperature priority).
If you are in FULL AUTO mode, the screen should say the following:

MANUAL
S1/60
F2.8
0dB

or something like that.
If you only have something that says "Tv 60" or "Av F2.8" then you are NOT in full manual mode and the image WILL darken as you pass by something bright. What is happening is that either the iris (a.k.a. F-Stop, a.k.a. iris) is closing to adjust for the overexposure OR the shutter speed is speeding up to compensate.

Please confirm that you are in FULL AUTO MODE because the cam shouldn't be able to change any of the exposure settings on its own in full auto mode. If it does, you should take your camera into an authorized Canon repair shop and have it looked at because you probably have an electrical problem where the controls are crossing signals.

Good luck!
Cheers!
