Does the Canon offer Image Stabilization?? I have read it's optical from Videomaker Mag but don't see it in the Canon specs.
Thanks,
Tony

XL and GL have optical stabilization. It is superior to digital stabilization.

You bet it does, the best I have seen, I just finished 1500 miles offshore on a 47'sailing yacht and came home with remarkble shots hand held. I have used the Sony DV stuff and Cannon is much better for my money. In my estimation the best bang for the buck. I am waiting for a trial of the new XL-2 !! ,it should be quite the camera also. ~Have a good CHRISTMAS~

I agree with the other two posts. The optical image stabilization on the XL1 is incredible. It really smoothes out movement. The only thing you need to keep in mind is if you put the XL1 on a tripod you should turn image stabilization off. If you pan on a tripod it will create a strange creeping effect at the end of the pan. This is not a problem, in fact it is the stabilizer doing its job, but it is visibile when on a tripod. For handheld work, I always use image stabilization.

I use the stabilization even on a tripod because the hability of remove the flicker when you lock or unlock the tripod head.
It's very important when you have to do that whithout stop shotting.
