Live Music Performance Audio Advice Requested Can't Post

Only time I tried taking xlr feed off a sound board was to ma200 adapter w/camera set to line level in resulting in bad audio. So I get another shot at an upcoming music event with a couple big names even. I'm going to try going from board to mixpre mixer (2 channel) and then into camera rca plugs with attenuated cables (I think that's the term for cables). I also have passive direct box which could go between board and mixer. Bottom line is I need to go to sound check and see....Any advice recommendations here for audio specifically, and video shoot in general? I'm going to do two camera shoot, considering three....Medium sized venue, large club....Your comments appreciated

If your audio was bad, the output signal from the mixer was not on an correct level.
BTW Be sure that the mixer gives line-out.
Always soundcheck before with the sound engineer before performance.
DI box is not necessary if your camera has Line-in.
If you go out form RCA, buy a short RCA to XLR cable.

Since it is so critical to get a proper sound, I always record left channel from the mixer and right channel from my own microphone.

Good luck!

Greetings,

Laurent

I suggest you pretest your audio arrangement and did you set the audio to mic level in the menu?
Try your arrangement with an input from a board and be sure your familiar with what you need.Talk to the audio tech so your both on the same page.If possible I would have my own audio tech and mic for audio for your shoot.Either way use a second backup recording device.
Check out what lighting will be during the shoot and either 1. work with their lighting person to get a lighting situation that is satisfactory for video recording.
2.bring in your own lighting.or 3. go home and it a day.
Make sure your chosen camera positions are available and that power is available there and you can run audio to where you need.Including taping down and matting the cables.
Make sure you work with the camera ops ahead of time so they know what to expect.Use clear coms or other communication so you can set up shots that in post can look like you did a live switch.
If you know what you need for a successful shoot, bring a tiny bit of attitude, take charge of the situation.
If your your going to do this kind of job,do it right, make yourself proud or don't do it all.
